Is SPLIT free?

Does SPLIT sync with Garmin?

Yes. Workouts push to Garmin Connect as structured sessions with warmup, intervals, cooldown, and pace targets. Activities sync back automatically via DI OAuth — no password stored, no browser login required. Polar and Suunto manual import is also supported.

What is VDOT and why does SPLIT use it?

VDOT is Jack Daniels' unified fitness metric derived from race performance. SPLIT calibrates your VDOT from a recent race or time trial, then sets all training paces — Easy, Marathon, Threshold, Interval, Repetition. More objective than heart rate, more reliable than feel-based zones.

How is SPLIT different from Garmin Coach or Runna?

Different approach. Garmin Coach is HR-only and device-locked. Runna uses fixed templates. SPLIT runs rule-based periodization (Daniels + Pfitzinger + Hanson) calibrated to your VDOT, with stretch-goal pace override and mid-cycle VDOT re-benchmark. Device-agnostic and free for core tracking.

How long are the training plans?

5K plans: 8–16 weeks. 10K: 10–20 weeks. Half marathon: 12–24 weeks. Marathon: 16–30 weeks. The engine auto-trims base weeks if your chosen start date is later than the ideal start, and extends for multi-peak cycles.

Can I add my local race to the race list?

Yes. The race list is community-maintained. Any logged-in user can add a race — name, sport, distance, date, location, website. Added races appear for everyone in the plan wizard goal selector immediately.
