Training plans

A plan for every goal, built on your fitness

Pick a goal and a training method. SPLIT builds the weeks from your current fitness, sends this month's sessions to your watch, and adjusts as you train.

The season view: base, build and peak phases over weekly volume bars, with an A race and a B race listed
Nine training methods

Every plan follows a method. Choose the one that suits how you like to train.

VDOT pace zonesEvery pace comes from your race results.
Polarized 80/20Easy days truly easy, hard days truly hard.
Aerobic base firstBuild the engine before adding speed.
Hard / easyStress, recover, improve.
High-volume aerobicLots of easy kilometres, little intensity.
Hills and terrainStrength from climbing and rough ground.
Adaptive pyramidMostly easy, some tempo, a little fast.
Adaptive / progressiveThe plan bends to how training goes.
Power-basedZones from your critical power.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is SPLIT free?

Yes. Signing up is free: device sync, every activity with map and laps, the feed, clubs, joining challenges and data export. Premium adds the coach, the plan builder and the race tools. See Pricing.

Which watches work with SPLIT?

Garmin, Wahoo and Apple Watch sync both ways: your plan goes out and your activities come back. Polar and Apple Health bring activities in, and Health Connect on Android is in beta. Suunto, Oura, WHOOP, Fitbit and Wear OS are on the way. See Platforms.

Does SPLIT sync with Garmin?

Yes. Workouts push to Garmin Connect as structured sessions with warmup, intervals, cooldown and pace targets. Activities sync back automatically via DI OAuth, with no password stored and no browser login required.

Can I move a workout after it is on my watch?

Yes. Drag it to another day in the calendar and it moves on your device too.

What is VDOT and why does SPLIT use it?

VDOT is Jack Daniels' unified fitness metric derived from race performance. SPLIT calibrates your VDOT from a recent race or time trial, then sets all training paces: Easy, Marathon, Threshold, Interval and Repetition. More objective than heart rate, more reliable than feel-based zones.

How is SPLIT different from Garmin Coach or Runna?

Garmin Coach is HR-only and device-locked. Runna uses fixed templates. SPLIT builds the plan from your own fitness with nine training methods to choose from, re-checks your paces as you get fitter, and works with more than one brand of watch.

How long are the training plans?

5K plans: 8 to 16 weeks. 10K: 10 to 20 weeks. Half marathon: 12 to 24 weeks. Marathon: 16 to 30 weeks. The engine trims base weeks if you start later than the ideal date, and you can add tune-up (B-race) sessions along the way.

Can I add my local race to the race list?

Yes. The race list is community-maintained. Any logged-in user can add a race with name, sport, distance, date, location and website. Added races appear for everyone in the plan wizard right away.

Is SPLIT community driven?

Yes. SPLIT is built with its users. Every screen has a report button that files bugs and feature requests straight to the team, and every change lands in the public changelog. Reports that ship are rewarded too; see Pricing.

Can I take my data with me?

Yes. Export every activity as GPX or CSV at any time, on every plan. Your data is hosted in the EU.
