Running Routes With Turn-by-Turn Voice Guidance - Explore Without Stopping to Check the Map
New city, new neighbourhood, or just bored of the same loop: the hard
part of running somewhere new is not the running, it is stopping every
few hundred metres to look at the map. Get-Split builds the route and
then talks you round it.
Build a route of the distance you want
Tell the route builder where you start, how far you want to go, and
whether it should avoid busy roads and traffic lights. It generates a
few candidates - loops or out-and-back, with the elevation gain of each
- and you pick one. Routes prefer quiet and green streets for runners;
cyclists get road, gravel or mountain profiles.
Send it to your watch
A saved route can be pushed to your Garmin as a course, so it shows on
the watch with the line to follow. The planned session for that day can
be pushed alongside it as a structured workout with pace targets (the Garmin plan app).
Or let your phone guide you
Pick the route on the recorder and start. As you run, Get-Split tells
you what is coming: "In 200 metres, turn right onto Østerbrogade", then
"Turn right onto Østerbrogade" at the corner. The next turn is always
shown under the map with the distance to it, so a glance is enough. If
you drift more than 100 metres off the route, it says so, and picks the
guidance back up when you return.
The turns come from the route itself - every route Get-Split builds
carries its street-by-street instructions - so nothing is looked up
while you run, and a route drawn by hand still gets cues from its
shape. It works with the screen locked and on both iPhone and Android,
and on the website the same route shows its full turn list so you can
read it through before you go.
Your routes become territory
Every new street you run is remembered: Get-Split keeps a map of the
streets you have covered and the ones you have not, and each run claims
ground on the Territory map where you compete with the people you
follow. Exploring stops being a detour and becomes the point - and with Beacon on, friends can follow along.
Start with one route
Route building and voice guidance are free to try. Generate a route
from where you are, choose the distance, and take the phone with you.
Get-Split runs on its own servers in the EU and stores only the routes
you save.
